Hibiscus Bicycle Tour
 On June 14, 2008, 109 riders descended on Punta Gorda to enjoy
the Hibiscus Festival and the Hibiscus Bicycle Tour. To our pleasant
surprise, the turn-out was beyond expectations. There were
over 30 riders who joined Howard Kunik on the “City Managers
Ride,” nearly 40 riders headed out with Ken Lovejoy of
Clear Channel Radio in the lead of the 62 mile (Metric Century)
Ride, and Kerri Black of KIXX Country Radio, lead about 20 riders
on the 30 mile course. The rest stops for the riders were
manned and supplied by the event sponsors. TEAM Punta Gorda sends
a heartfelt thank you to each and everyone for their help in
making this such a big success.
Proceeds from the Hibiscus Bicycle Tour will be used to install
additional bicycle racks in Punta Gorda, and to fund continued
efforts in attaining “Bicycle-Friendly Community“ status
from the League of American Bicyclists. This is a part of TEAM’s
Rails-to-Trails initiative that will enhance the quality of life
in Punta Gorda and Charlotte County.

3rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament
 On April 5, 2008 100 golfers converged on St. Andrews
South Golf Club in Punta Gorda for a great cause and
to have a lot of fun. The continental breakfast while
the teams checked in provided the energy to get the day
off to a good start. Exploring the goody bags kept everyone
busy until it was time to warm up. Everyone tried their
luck the putting contest and then got ready for the starting
signal.
The 25 foursomes competed in three flights for great
prizes and best of all, bragging rights. The golfers
enjoyed lunch while the prizes were given out and recognition
given to those who put this special event together—Laurie Hayes, Carol Kerr,
Dee Papa, and their team of volunteers—and the event sponsors.
Andrews South was such a great host; we’re ready to do
it all over again next year. Proceeds from this event support
TEAM’s active projects and operation.
